emancipatory possibilities for ourselves and the collective

I am deeply invested in working with people who are motivated to implement insights from our work together into their lives, moving from stuckness to embodiment and choice. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA individuals and groups, people navigating chronic illness and folks who struggle with disordered eating and barriers to nourishment.

About

I am a psychotherapist, group facilitator, queer-identified parent, art-maker, activist, podcaster, living with chronic health issues. I have years of experience working with issues related to trauma and its impact on the body and I am also a scholar of critical, psychoanalytic and mindfulness-based theories. I have published on the topics of intergenerational trauma transmission, eating disorders, sexual assault in the music industry, and gender dysphoria. I am a video/phone-based psychotherapist in Massachusetts who specializes in working with individuals, groups, and couples who want to have complex and transformative conversations about: Navigating life as a motivated person in eating disorder recovery Trauma and its impact on the body (including queer/gender-non conforming and trans bodies and bodies impacted by intergenerational trauma) Work/life/emotional balance as a new or expectant parent Living sustainably with chronic health issues Incorporating mindfulness practices and Buddhist psychology into psychotherapy sessions Moving from a life dictated by trauma reactions to a life of more ease, spaciousness and agency One of my beloved projects is hosting the “Living in this Queer Body” podcast (www.livinginthisqueerbody.com) and related online groups. Finally, Onyx Fujii and I are the co-directors of The Kintsugi Therapist Collective. Our signature offering is The Embodied Private Practice Cohort, a year long program that combines clinical consultation and reality-based business coaching that is grounded in embodied practice, with a focus on sustainability. Testimonials

“I adore Asher! Being their patient was truly a transformative experience for me. Their perspective on embodiment, queerness, and non-linear healing is such a gift for all of us who have these conversations with ourselves, loved ones, and patients. ”

former patient

“I love how much complexity Asher weaves into the work of caregiving and listening to other people's stories. It's obvious that Asher isn't ‘your typical therapist.’ I love how candidly and humbly they weave in pieces of their own narrative to their work.”

“I reached out to Asher to "ponder upon" my desire to bring my own queer embodied social justice awareness to my counseling practice more fully. Maybe this sounds grandiose but I look to Asher as a true north, a beacon in these troubled times. ”
